My eyes open.
Without looking, I know the time.
3:15 a.m.
Always 3:15 a.m.
Just in time for my early morning clandestine Facebook chat with Renee and Angie. As our husbands snore, we plan our days, lament the weather, and discuss whatever comes to mind at such an ungodly time.
We formed this insomnia club by accident, our bodies oddly synced across two states, connected not only by our hometown but by habitual sleeplessness and for me, menopause.
Ah yes, ill-mannered menopause replacing metabolism with hot flashes. Replacing sleep with pinterest.
Our club is open to new members. The only requirement is being wide-eyed at 3:15 central standard time.

βThe first indication of menopause is a broken thermostat. It’s either that or your weight. In any case, if you don’t do something, you could be dead by August.” Dorothea Benton Frank
menopausal mama says
I can soooo relate. I have learned to survive on 4-5 hours of sleep now this past year. Well, at least I am able to get a lot more accomplished! I think it’s great that you have an insomnia club, too!
Talya Tate Boerner says
I almost did laundry at 3:15. I just hate to give in to it!
Writercat59 says
Oh, can I join you? I sometimes get those sleepless nights where I keep looking at the clock slowly change. UGH! I like your idea of the Insomnia Club. Isn’t Menopause wonderful? BLEK! And don’t even get me started about the mood swings. I was visited by the Menopausal Cloud of Doom this week and it was not pleasant.
Talya Tate Boerner says
Yes you can join! So far I don’t think I have mood swings. Knock On Wood.
Winnie says
Sleeplessness, menopause? Yes been there, no wait, I am still there!
Getting better though, with meditation!
I think it’s a great idea with the insomnia club.

I have had nights like that. You describe it so well!
Talya Tate Boerner says
It’s becoming the norm.
Bryan Jones says
Sorry, if i’m up at 315 am, somebody has done called from work with a problem! I have the opposite problem, can’t sleep in on the weekends, I get up at 5 everyday especially when I don’t have to work all that’s on then is Lucy and weather channel!
Talya Tate Boerner says
I never sleep in either Bryan.
courtneysmum says
Oh me, oh my! My new work schedule has me totally spent and exhausted 24/7 – I basically come home from work now and pretty much GoToBed by 9 or 10! I can’t function unless I do that. I HATE IT! I am a genuine mamma Ruby night owl and I don’t like going to bed early! It goes against my very nature. But I have to work and love my job so until I can retire (or expire) I will give in and go to bed early. Except tonight. Tonight, I can’t sleep but I must make myself. I’m out of 5 hr energy! Sweet Dreams, EveryBUDDY!!! π
Talya Tate Boerner says
That schedule must have you out of sync!
mary-anderingcreatively says
I want to sing up for your club. I up at four and five though. More like 4:25 a.m. I can set an alarm though. What’s an hour?
Talya Tate Boerner says
Yes you sound like a good fit for the club!
Dorothy Latimer Johnson says
Good idea to get up instead of lying in bed fretting. I get up and read, but your solution sounds good too. I must have some werewolf blood because my sleeplessness goes along with the full moon.
Tim Hardin says
Reminds me of my nights as a “Nightstalker”…haha…and I often wondered if I was part vampire, too.=)
